Seit 1271\u00a0umschlie\u00dft diese eine noch heute an drei Stellen zug\u00e4ngliche und begehbare Stadtmauer aus Basaltstein. Der ringf\u00f6rmig um die Stadtkirche St. Jakobus angelegte Stadtkern, belegt die Wehrhaftigkeit der katholischen Enklave im protestantisch gepr\u00e4gten Vogelsberg.<\/p>\n<p>Die sch\u00f6nen und oftmals liebevoll dekorierten Fachwerkh\u00e4user im Ringwall und das Fachwerkrathaus am Marktplatz, bilden dabei ein harmonisches Miteinander.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-1752 Herbstein<\/h2>\n<p>Seit 1980 sprudelt die 32,6\u00b0 warme, aus 1000,05 m Tiefe gewonnen fluoridhaltigen Calcium-Natrium-Sulfat-Thermalquellenwasser im Thermal-Bewegungsbad Vulkantherme, die die h\u00f6chstgelegene Therme in Hessen sein soll. Im Foyer kann man kostenlos am Trinkbrunnen, das Herbsteiner Heilwasser kosten. Sauna und Bistrobetrieb mit Caf\u00e9haus-Terrasse laden zum verweilen ein.<\/p>\n<p>Der weitl\u00e4ufige Landschaftskurpark ist in die Wiesenlandschaft zwischen Vulkantherme und Haus des Gastes eingebettet. Er wird vom Eichh\u00f6lzchesbach durchflossen der den Kurparkteich speist. Im Norden grenzt der Park an das Waldgebiet rund um die Schalksbachteiche.
